Kangaroo Island South Australia
Hello again,
Been meaning to put these up from a stunning week on Kangaroo Island South Australia, the weather was not overly kind for photography but made the most with what we had, I got to “finally” make some images of my nemesis bird the Eastern Osprey, was such a treat to see these stunning birds of prey after so many hours / days and attempts previously in other occasions.
Please also clink on the last trip if interested as that also includes a trip to Raptor Domain while on KI, was such a treat to have a a private show and a huge thank you to Dana, Kirilly and all the staff who looked after us and put on such a stunning show.
Getting to Kangaroo Island
By Ferry...
Sealink operate two large, luxurious vehicle and passenger ferries, between Cape Jervis (approx. 2 hour drive from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula) and Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. There are four departures daily, with additional services during peak times. Bookings are necessary. Travelling time is a comfortable 45 minutes. Mainland coach connections are available to/from Adelaide and Goolwa to Cape Jervis. Island connections are available to/from Penneshaw to American River and Kingscote.
Kangaroo Island is one of the world's great nature-based destinations. Think of an island with 509km of Coastline & 155km from the East Coast to the West Coast. With native bushland, wildlife, adventure & exploring. Where pristine beaches, local wines & sunsets are on your doorstep. You'll need longer than you think!
Best known to be a 'Zoo without Fences', wildlife encounters are pretty much a given. But if you need to make sure you find what you are looking for within a short timeframe, then it is best to tour with someone who knows exactly where to find them. Kangaroos, Sea lions, Koalas, Echidnas, Wallabies, Goannas, and marine mammals are pleantyful, along with many species of birdlife. If you are after wildlife, then Kangaroo Island never disappoints.
Was such a treat to get back to KI, was there just before those horrible fires swept through, very sad and frightening I can imagine for all those family affected but I am so very happy to see how the Island has come back, nature truly is remarkable!
