Tu EMUZ

Kangaroo Island Trip

Hello Again,

Back from Kangaroo Island, this time staying at Tu Emuz, had another lovely holiday and time on KI

Peaceful and private

This beautifully-appointed, architecturally designed, 2 bedroom beachfront holiday villa is situated on 3 acres of lawns and gardens. It has its own essentially private, white sand beach which is safe for swimming. You will be able to sit on the contemplation terrace and enjoy picturesque views of the sea within a beautiful rural setting. A coastal reserve adjoins the property to the west and distant neighbours enjoy similarly expansive grounds.

You will be immersed in nature with Little Penguins nesting in the front yard, koalas, kangaroos , goannas, sea eagles and echidnas. The garden also attracts numerous birds including crimson rosellas, superb blue wrens and honeyeaters. The shorebirds are also a feature with hooded plovers, cormorants and oystercatchers.

The accommodation will suit both short and long stays however be warned the most popular comment is that guests wish they could stay longer.

The cottage is ideal for a couple but comfortably accommodates up to four guests.

As the cottage is built of cedar and local limestone it naturally retains its warmth in winter and coollness in summer. The cottage is attached to the owners residence but due to the unique design of the property it is separated by a thick limestone wall, providing total sound proofing as well as privacy for all, should the owners be in residence. As retirees the owners are often away but welcome contact with guests when thye are home.

Guests enjoy the following complimentary benefits: a bottle of bubbly, access to our essentially private beach, winter firewood, penguin viewing, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, beach chairs, a sun shelter and beach towels.

Hooded Plovers are a medium-sized, pale brownish-grey plover found on Australia’s coastline. They are considered endangered.

The Hooded Plover is non-migratory. Little detailed information exists about its movements within Australia. Local movements to salt lakes immediately behind beaches occur in winter in the east. In the west, they move from the coast to salt lakes some distance inland in winter. This species is also known as the Hooded Dotterel or Hoody. The genus name used to be Charadrius.

In south-eastern Australia, the Hooded Plover prefers broad, flat, open sandy beaches with plenty of seaweed and backed by low sand dunes. Densities are lowest on narrow, steep beaches, where there are few or no dunes, and where human activities are most intensive. In the south-west, they also occur on inland salt lakes.

Hooded Plovers often share their ocean beach habitats with people. Their habitat is suffering loss and degradation via coastal development, weed infestations and introductions of predators. Their nest defence strategy is to leave the nest when a predator approaches and stay distant from the eggs until the predator leaves and it is safe to return. If the adult remains away for too long or if disturbances are too frequent, the eggs can be exposed to harsh temperatures that lead to the death of the embryo inside or can be exposed to other approaching predators.
